Principal’s Message
Welcome to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School Miranda, a place where faith, learning and community come together in a warm and welcoming environment.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea, we are committed to providing a contemporary Catholic education that nurtures the whole child: spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally. Our school is a vibrant and inclusive community firmly rooted in the life of the parish, where every student is known, valued and encouraged to strive for their personal best.
Faith is at the heart of all that we do. Through our Religious Education program and daily lived experiences, students are invited to deepen their relationship with Christ, to reflect Gospel values through their actions, and to participate actively in the life of the school and wider parish community.
We place a strong focus on high-quality teaching and learning, with literacy and numeracy as foundational priorities. Our curriculum is rich, challenging and reflective of current pedagogy, supported by specialist programs in Music, Physical Education, E-Learning and the Creative and Performing Arts. Through these programs, students have opportunities to develop confidence, creativity and contemporary skills in areas such as technology, performing arts, sport and collaboration.
At OLSS, learning extends beyond the classroom walls. Students are encouraged to engage in a wide range of opportunities that foster leadership, resilience, service and community involvement.
Our strong partnerships with families, staff and parish ensure that students are supported to grow as compassionate, confident and faith-filled learners who will contribute positively to the world around them.
If you are a parent interested in finding out more about our school, give us a call or send us an email via the ‘Contact Us‘ section of this website. You are always welcome to visit the school and see for yourself what a wonderful learning environment it is!

History
The school opened with 28 pupils in Miranda church hall in January 1950. The Presentation Sisters (Wagga congregation), who had recently established a convent in Sutherland, agreed to staff it.
In recent years the school was refurbished. At the beginning of 2010, the extension of the library and the new multi-purpose room were completed and ready for use. The COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) and new rubber surface were completed with a grant through the Building the Education Revolution Project and was opened in March 2010. It was blessed by Bishop Julian Porteous.
